‘Light, forceful and fresh, Sedley is an eau de parfum capturing watery and aerial scents that offer a true olfactory journey, with a freshness that follows you everywhere. This classic yet modern fragrance is a blend of bergamot, spearmint and watery accord, with geranium bourbon, lavender and sunny notes. In the background, the ultimate woody signature embodies tradition mixed with contemporary aestheticism. An original fragrance with a radiant sillage designed as a manifesto for all generations of aesthetes. With its clear bottle, Sedley is modelled after its composition, which is light, forceful and fresh. Hot and cold. Selecting materials of exceptional quality and combining them with unprecedented molecules, the eau de parfum challenges the established codes of the olfactory pyramid to create a round and vibrant fragrance, where the notes expertly collide. The lightness of citrus sets off the power of mint, and Hivernal Neo reinvents the feeling of water.’ – Parfums de Marly
Sedley is one of the better releases from Parfums de Marly for me.
Let’s get the potential elephant in the room out of the way first. There was a lot of talk about the performance of Sedley upon its launch. To address that the brand released a new batch with extra maceration a year after the original release, that supposedly has better performance. It’s not a reformulation; it’s the exact same composition, it just had more time to macerate.
I unfortunately do not know which batch this sample is from. What I can tell you is that the performance for me is average. It’s not bad, not so weak that it would deter me from buying Sedley. It is however much much less potent than my experiences with other fresh scetns from the house, like Galloway, Percival or Perseus, so it could influence choosing between them.
Sedley smells great to me though and to my own surprise, I think it could be my favorite Parfums de Marly for Summer. It’s a crowd-pleasing, easy-going scent, but I think it has a lot of character still. The key element in the composition is the minty, herbal touch that I’ve been loving lately for the high heat. Here it’s a soft, floral, minty edge, on top of bright citrus scent. The citrus doesn’t fade immediately, which is good.
After a while you get more of the woody base, but it’s still relatively light and neutral, so it doesn’t take away too much from the top notes. It gives the fragrance a slightly masculine leaning vibe. It has been compared to some cheaper/designer fragrances, which is understandable with this scent profile, but in my opinion Sedley feels a little more mature and classier than some others. I don’t picture a beach-going teenager for this fragrance. It’s a nice release.
