Sandor 70’s is named after a 1970’s bar in Barcelona and the scent will place you in a bar setting straight away.
To me, few fragrances balance leather and tobacco as well as this one. In the opening minutes, the leather dominates; I picture a glossy, but old leather. Hints of petrol, gasoline pour out, but it’s not long before the smokiness takes over. There’s a subtle, but elegant touch of florals with the osmanthus, jasmine and rose.
The second phase is a slightly ashy tobacco. More Strangers Parfumerie Burning Ben than Parfums de Marly Herod. Perhaps more like Les Indemodables Vanille Havane. It’s not as ashtray-esque as Akro Smoke, but it’s just unpolished enough to be interesting in a field of tobacco scents. The oily leather couch is still there, but it starts to be obscured by cigar smoke.
It is sweet from the get-go, but phase three is where the sweetness takes over. At this point the leather fades further, and it’s a sweet tobacco scent. It again reminds me mostly of the resinous Vanille Havane here, but the remnants of the leather still echo. Combined with hints of dry coconut; not listed, but I always smelled it in Sandor 70’s in the way there’s coconut in Navitus Arcanum.
These are all familiar smells, but it smells complex and interwoven here, as well as high quality. Performance is average, but that helps with the wearability for me. Sandor 70’s is the absolute star of Carner in my eyes and it warrants a lot more attention in the community if you ask me.
