COLOUR

FAMILY
Fruity-Floral. The fragrance leads the dance around a burst of tangy Red Berries, summery Strawberry and velvety Raspberry heightened by the freshness of sun-drenched Mandarin. The “coup de Trafalgar” of this unique* fragrance is delivered by an intriguing blackcurrant absolute. Right in the middle of this show of red fruits, Violet absolute, notes of Wood and Patchouli, and lingering Musks slip in.

Rouge Trafalgar is a 2020 release in the Maison Christian Dior line. My expectations for this one weren’t that high, especially as far as it being suitable for me personally, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Rouge Trafalgar is an overload of red fruits. Listed are raspberry, cherry, strawberry, mandarin, grapefruit and blackcurrant. The cherry and the strawberry worried me a bit, but I don’t get much of those. It’s mainly a raspberry scent for me, maybe with blackberry as the next prominent thing.

I’d say it’s a little bit soapy and acidic. It’s also quite sweet, but it feels like a fruity sweetness and not an added sugary or vanillic sweetness, which I think is for the better. The sweetness, combined with the acidic, tart aspect is a good balance. It’s bright, but surprisingly soft and almost powdery in texture. There’s patchouli in the base, which is more prominent than the musky element to me. It’s simple, but it works.

I’m still a bit torn on how I feel about it for me personally. It’s bright, youthful and it definitely has a lot of ‘girly’ aspects, but in an elegant way. I think it just crosses the boundary of what I would enjoy wearing. As always, I think that anyone can pull off whatever he or she wants, but this leans about the most feminine out of the Maison Dior line that I’ve tried, more so than Gris Dior (which is one of my favorites) or even Sakura or Rose Gipsy.
