Rouge Saray has been a popular release for Atelier des Ors; it’s one that sort of eluded me, because the first impression in store, didn’t seem like it would be up my alley. Wearing it now, I can definitely appreciate it, but it lacks a bit of balance for me to make it a real winner. Still, a solid sweet release.
Sticky, resinous sweetness and slightly charred, darker woods. The fruitiness is somewhat mild, but it’s constantly there. Sort of overpowered at first, but it keeps coming back in subtle waves of plummy fruitiness. I mostly smell the plum when I smell my skin up close, in the air it mostly just smells like sweet, syrupy woods.
Slightly earthy and dirty, very warm; think of the resinous woodiness from Les Indemodables Vanille Havane (not as dirty as that however). The sweetness is a bit overdone for my taste, but it wears nicely, because of its resinous texture. I had a similar feeling about D’Orsay Il N’y A Pas De Bien Ni De Mal (T.J.), but in that case, I felt Rouge Saray to be more earthy and charred.
