ROSE DE JAMAL (2019) • LES INDEMODABLES🔺, ScentAdvice

Another one from Les Indemodables that I had high expectations for, as I love rose fragrances and it’s a style where I feel ‘high quality’ ingredients can really make a big difference. Rose de Jamal isn’t quite what I expected in style, but it’s equally nice.

Rose de Jamal instantly does two things: It gives you a rose in a clear, unsweetened style, which I personally love. This does not smell like most rose-scents, it more so smells like a rose in a (green) bush of flowers, with a lot of stem and a lot of natural surroundings. It makes most other rose fragrances look like they have a colorful Instagram filter, whereas this is the more muted, neutral version.

The second thing that hits you is the mint. The mint used in Rose de Jamal doesn’t come across very strong, but it gives the rose a distinct, cooling effect. As opposed to many a rose, this doesn’t give me images of sunshine and blue skies; it’s more moody and serene.

Later in the wear it becomes more vibrant; more ‘red’ in my mind. Spicier. More jammy (but not per se sweeter in a common way). To my nose there is a hint of leather lurking in the background. I have no idea where it’s coming from, but later in the drydown it does get sweeter, but into a very subtle, yet deep woody and slightly spicy sweetness.

As far as rose fragrances go, this is one that will speak to a lot of men in particular I think. The opening with its minty green touches isn’t a love at first sniff for me, but the mid-section and the drydown are. I’m looking forward to trying Rose de Jamal more often.
