My favorite citrus and high heat fragrance could be Atelier Des Ors Pomelo Riviera. I’d tried and liked the other previous releases from the Riviera line as well, but Pomelo Riviera stood out for me. This 2022 addition, Riviera Sunrise, does not dethrone Pomelo Riviera per se, but it definitely comes close and it’s at least my second favorite in the Riviera line so far.
Straight away Riviera Sunrise feels familiar. Nothing in my collection can beat the Summery, zesty and slightly bitter opening of Pomelo Riviera and Riviera Sunrise follows closely in its footsteps. Instead of grapefruit, you get a less bitter, but equally bright lemon and mandarin opening.
After only a few minutes, the different direction of Riviera Sunrise becomes clear. It takes the same orange blossom, but amps it up and introduces it as a main component almost instantly. Whereas Pomelo Riviera is all about the citrus for a good chunk of the wear, Riviera Sunrise is a very floral affair. And while both have a golden orange hue, the fig leaf and vetiver add a greener tinge to the latter. There’s a soft sweetness, but it steers clear of a vanillic drydown, keeping it fresh all the way through.
Interestingly enough, Riviera Sunrise gives me more of a beach feeling than Pomelo Riviera did (in which I seem to get less of the salty note than most people do).
As with the others in this line, it captures the feeling of Summer, vacation, sea breeze and carelessness like few can. While relatively simplistic, it’s transporting and uplifting and I don’t think you can ask more from a fragrance in this style.
