Rescent Man opens with incense and a slightly sharp spiciness. It’s a particular type of scent in the opening that I’ve come across a couple of times (in a Floris and in Gallivant Tokyo) that always reminds me a bit of celery salt. After only a couple of minutes, more of a connection to Tuscan Leather comes to mind (not surprisingly with the saffron and raspberry), however it’s a softer suede-ish undertone that I get here.
Moments later, some rose comes through. It’s all balanced nicely, none of the notes that I mentioned jump out at you. Aside from the initial minutes, it’s quite smooth at its core, but it keeps the spicy edge for a while. In the drydown you get more of the woody base, but I kept getting a suede throughout as well. There’s oud, guaiac wood and sandalwood, but I get an oudy vibe at all, it’s a lighter/designer-faux oud one.
Rescent Man has familiar facets, but it isn’t any one particular fragrance. A fragrance that comes to mind the most is Acqua Di Parma Colonia Oud, but I wasn’t a fan of that one and I much prefer the way Rescent Man is blended and how there’s less emphasis on the raspberry (more spice, incense and rose).
