Printemps Blanc sounded really nice to me on paper, and while definitely okay-ish, it’s not really doing much for me. And as with the other Maison Mataha that I’ve reviewed (Escapade Gourmande), it feels like significantly cheaper perfumery than its €190 price point in my opinion. The style reminds me of Theodoris Kalotinis and feels basic and bareboned.
From the notes, two things clearly jump out for me, being orange blossom and vanilla. I was hoping for perhaps a bit more of a mature, more floral fragrance, more suitable for warm weather. Instead, this is really sweet, synthetic feeling, thin airy, vanilla straight from the jump alongside those orange-y flowers. Not an unpleasant scent mind you, but a far cry from better orange blossom-vanilla’s, for example like one I recently discovered, Art Meets Art Like A Virgin Unplugged. Also in regards to popular comparisons, like Nishane Hundred Silent Ways or Kilian Love Don’t Be Shy, the Maison Mataha completely pales in comparison, especially in terms of texture. Perhaps a closer companion would be Kayali Marrakesh in a Bottle, but with more of a vanillic sweetness.
I wore this alongside the popular Escapade Gourmande and two things became clear; this has a similar, rather cheap smelling dry vanilla/caramel base and this performs significantly worse. I could smell Escapade Gourmande for at least twice as long.
Pleasant scent, but at €190, with the alternatives widely available, I can’t see any merit in recommending Printemps Blanc to anyone.
