SCENT SALIM
PREMIUM MYSORE SANDALWOOD
Sandalwood
I can’t really make any comparisons, so this is just an exploration of this particular Scent Salim oil. Initially, I was a bit underwhelmed, but I was wrong. What I get first and foremost is oats, oatmeal, oatmilk. It’s smooth, but it’s not the same type of smooth that I expected from what I’ve grew to perceive as ‘milky sandalwood’.
This is a thicker oil, which I realize is quite obvious considering it’s a pure oil. It’s like I could smell the viscosity. Especially about half an hour into the wear, when the oats slowly start their transition into a more woody scent. The phase in between made me think of sweeter paper mache (I think that comparison won’t make the sales pitch, but I promise it smells good). Maybe rice milk is a better descriptor.
You get that pine-like, crisp quality as well straight from the start, but very subtle. It’s like having the freshness of pines, without the greenness. In the drydown it became a beautiful soft, naturally sweetened woody scent, with the slightest camphor sharpness.
It’s deceivingly powerful. When I mentioned I was underwhelmed, it was mainly the lack of a punch. However, this lasts and lasts on your skin. On it’s own, the scent is subtle enough, but when used as a base for a another fragrance (as I did twice with Salim Oud), it’s true power reveals itself. The first time I must’ve used too much, because the sandalwood scent completely overpowered the (admittedly rather subtle) Salim Oud. Just a tiny dab of it is enough to add an extra dimension and extend the longevity.
Sidenote: I ending up using this in a blend with my own mixture of Fragrance du Bois Sahraa, Frederic Malle Portrait Of a Lady, Scent Salim Oud and this Mysore sandalwood. It’s one of the best smelling things on my shelves.
