‘Hero note: Often known as the champagne of teas, Darjeeling is grown only in a limited region, carefully harvested and processed to perfection by hand. This human touch maintains the tea’s quality status, resulting in the fine delicate flavors that make the Darjeeling stand out among other black teas. It is an inspiring reminder of the power and the quality of the human connection. The parlor buzzes and hums. It is alive with the exuberance and delight of conversation. With the porcelain teapot as your hostess, you feel the anticipation mounting to be part of the flow. Indulge in the present moment, which will always be unique and never repeated. A warm earthy fragrance that captures the energy of captivating conversations, opening with the intriguing sweetness of carrot, rhubarb and pear, followed by an alluring blend of delicate white florals, cozy tobacco and exquisite Darjeeling tea. Created with Gino Percontino in a poetic depiction of the English afternoon tea parlors where many lasting connections are made.’ – Roan Fragrances
As a tea-fragrances-lover, I was excited to try ROAN (all 3 of their current release center around teas). In the case of Porcelain Pulse, it’s a darjeeling tea.
The fragrance definitely opens lighter than I expected. Very aromatic, soft, citrussy. Not the most interesting straight away, but super pleasant. Muskiness in a fresh white t-shirt sense and a lot of citrus. The citrus has a slight herbal tinge, reminding me most of lemongrass. But it changes.
It warms up quite a bit, but I never get real tobacco or hay vibes. It remains citrussy with tones of tea smoke and carrot seed for a while. When smelled up close, I find more of the darker facets, but in the air, they are subtle. Instead, I find it gets spicier, but also sweeter; almost in a Baccarat Rouge-esque way, but without the cloying annoyance of Baccarat Rouge. Besides, as mentioned, much subtler in any manner.
This style of fragrance reminds me a bit of Guerlain’s Neroli Outrenoir, but perhaps moving into something a tad sweeter in the ROAN. Comforting and cozy to wear, as well as versatile. I’ll probably have to wear this one again, as I felt it changed quite a few times during my wearing.
