‘To the north-west of Kyoto, a majestic bamboo forest links the Earth to the sky above. The green topping of the bamboo stalks takes the eyes seemingly to infinity, but no, you see it gently swaying in the delicate breeze, giving the chance for a few fleeting rays of sun to pierce the shade. Sagano invites the visitor to join the bamboo and luxuriate in the poetry surrounding it.’ – Ella K
Ella K is one of my favorite brands, with Melodie D’Altai being the absolute star for me, followed by this Poeme de Sagano. As far as their fresher scents, Poeme De Sagano takes the cake and it’s one of my most worn fragrances.
This is a bright green and orange scent. It’s not the grassy or woody green that I sometimes have issues with; instead it’s fruity, citrussy and clean. Yuzu, grapefruit and bergamot are listed and combined they give a mandarin-esque scent to my nose. It’s quite acidic, but there is a bit of sweetness as well and it’s not as bitter as some yuzu or grapefruit scents can be.
Poeme de Sagano is calming; there’s bamboo, mint and eucalyptus. It creates this citrussy, woody scent that remains light and fresh throughout. You won’t get any ‘toothpaste’ mint in this whatsoever. More so, it’s like a lemongrassy citrus that I don’t think will put anyone who smells it off.
As mentioned, it is light, but it’s not dry; it comes across juicy and watery for the most part and ever so slightly woody. As with all the Ella K, the vibrancy of the ingredients strikes me. It feels transparent and crisp, which really aides a fragrance of this style. This is a perfect Summer fresh fragrance for me, but also one of my favorites to wear to the office.
