I had low hopes for Pelagos, due to it being marketed as an aquatic scent; my least favorite style of fragrances. And it’s definitely not one of my favorites in the Dusita line-up. However, it does fair better than I expected, because some of Pissara’s signatures that I do like (florals and iris) are prominent in Pelagos.
When I tried it on paper, it was very sharp and green. In general, this fragrance is way more green than blue of any sorts to my nose; on skin, I don’t think I’d be referencing an aquatic facet at all if it wasn’t for the concept presented by the brand.
On skin, it’s still green, but the florals are much more prominent. Almost spicy, jasmine and iris with a strong herbal citrus edge. What makes this ‘aquatic’ to me, is that the citrus and bright florals are reminiscent of the sort of neon-colored, chlorine-sharp variety that I know from other aquatic scents; the citrus a bit too much in the cleaning product direction initially for my taste.
Of course, over time, it smooths out and gets a bit sweeter. Actually, I find it to get more woody, the more I smell it. The drydown being quite pleasant, with a softer mix of tonka, woods and iris. It has the nutty, rooty side of iris and ambrette, the fresh woody side of cypress/pine and a lasting citrussy edge. It grows almost creamy and this stage definitely is the highlight of the wear for me.
Overall, it ends up being very nice for the style, but it’s not my style.
