      PECHE VELOURS (2025) • MAISON MATAHA🔺, ScentAdvice

I’ve not been impressed so far with Maison Mataha and Peche Velours is another one that makes me question the hype that this brand has been receiving in the fragrance community.

Peche Velours is an okay-smelling, peach-ish sweet fragrance that feels indiscernible from your average Zara-level body mist to me. Not an unpleasant wearing experience, but at the price point and for the interest it garners, it completely falls flat for me.

I get a hint of powdery, tart citrus and peach, but it’s quick to be overpowered by a sweetness. The opening has that tart, hair-spray fruitiness for me, which I’m not the biggest fan of. It has some freshness, but at no point does Peche Velours evoke any juiciness, sparkling qualities or lifelike fruitiness.

And seeing some of the reviews leading up to me trying it, was a bit baffling for me as well. A lot of mentions of how fresh this is, but after about 5 minutes, I find nothing refreshing in this scent profile. The listed floral heart is not really there for me either, it goes straight from fruity to sweet. There’s only a faint, abstract floral tinge to the sweet cloud.

Whereas the sweetness is sort of pleasant at first, the base feels a bit earthy, muddy. I get small hints of suede here too; in a cashmeran-faux sandalwood combination. Frankly, I think the saving grace for me personally is that it’s a subtle wear; it’s not a strong performer and turns into a skin scent almost from start to finish. Which is likely not a positive for most people, but I feel like it keeps it from going fully cloying.

All said and done; as mentioned earlier, not necessarily a ‘bad’ experience, but easily one of the least remarkable ones of the year so far, from one of the least remarkable brands out there.
