PROFUMUM ROMA
PATCHOULY
2004
Patchouli
Amber
Sandalwood
Incense
I’m always torn on patchouli forward fragrances and this one is no different.
Part of me wants to enjoy this fragrance. It’s a really well-done, although quite strong patchouli. I get small hints of a nutty and chocolate quality, but it remains mostly woody.
More woody, than green, which is a plus for me, but it definitely has that patchouli earthiness throughout and it’s a bit too much for my taste. I’d rather go with something a little more sweetened like Francesca Bianchi’s Sticky Fingers. For a straight up patchouli, this is up there, but it’s fighting an uphill battle against Perris Patchouli Nosy Be and maybe also Von Eusersdorff Classic Patchouli for me. In general, I’d say it’s a style that has been done (and been done well) by dozens of brands and I don’t see the need for anyone creating another patchouli centric scent like this anymore (to be fair, Profumum Roma was released way before most others).
