‘Ormonde Jayne’s Patchouli D’Atlas fragrance is a fragrant jewel of scents that is presented in the brand’s stunning linen packaging. The soul of the stunning fragrance reposes on patchouli, musk and sandalwood to create a scent that is both grounding and reassuring.’ – Harrods

This was a surprise, but not of the good kind. I was expecting a more straight forward patchouli scent, which I’m not the biggest fan of to begin with. The surprise is that I find this fragrance to smell more like saffron/leather than Bijou Zafran (which is a magnificent fragrance) and Oud Liaisons (which I don’t love, but like a lot more than this).
The opening has more brightness; in a cucumbery-woody scent (like Guerlain Santal Pao Rosa) with some spiciness to it. However, the scent gets overtaken by a rubbery, shoe/shoe-polish leather. It took me back to affordable shoe shopping as a kid. After a while a hint of ‘locker room’ dampness crept in; reminding me of old-school ‘sports’ flankers (like Acqua di Parma Colonia Oud if I remember that one correctly).
Definitely not a fan of this one personally and I think it’s oddly named. Probably my least favorite experience with an Ormonde Jayne to date (which is one of the brands I rate highly).
