Oud Yssee is Lorga’s take on a rose-oud fragrance and it’s one of the most interesting and unique ones, albeit it not per se my favorite.
The rose here is understated; it’s there in the background, but it’s overpowered by the heavier notes. I personally love rose, so on one hand I wish it was more pronounced, on the other hand, there are already a million rose-oud combinations, so it’s good Lorga took it down a path less travelled.
This is very dark in the opening, almost smelling like (salted) liquorice to me. It brought back memories of Kilian’s Black Phantom or a darker, heavier version of Margiela’s Whispers In The Library. Within the first hour though, it transitions from the liquorice vibe to a woody scent. There’s oud, but this is mainly a sandalwood base to my nose.
It’s very creamy; there are also milk and coffee notes listed and I can imagine a very milky coffee that’s sprinkled with cinnamon. The rose is there the entire time, but I have to actively try to smell it to really pick it up.
I’m not a fan of the opening, but the drydown is great. It’s a smooth creamy woody scent, with a touch of rose and a touch of a gourmand quality. The longevity for this one is impressive too. Another great Lorga.
