‘A simple composition, perhaps one of the simplest I’ve ever created. But in today’s fast-paced world, simplicity is often what we crave. At its heart lies aged frankincense, a hidden treasure from the Sultan’s Palace in Oman, blended seamlessly with the green, earthy depth of Indian vetiver. The fragrance opens with a fresh yet spiced aroma, rooty, earthy, and subtly metallic. A decade-aged patchouli then takes center stage, unveiling a musky nuance with a fleeting dampness that quickly gives way to its natural, aromatic beauty. Outdoorsy and grounding, it evokes mossy landscapes, earthy richness, and a hint of spice, all wrapped in a fresh yet warming embrace. A touch of birch tar adds a smoky contrast, enhancing rather than overpowering the composition. It creates a delicate balance between spiced green freshness and a smoldering, burnt-wood depth, a harmonious interplay of yin and yang. Finally, Indian oud emerges, lending its woody elegance to the blend. It intertwines effortlessly with the green, earthy character of Oud Tirabi, resting gracefully atop the smoky trail left by the birch tar. A simple composition? Yes. But crafted with passion and meant to be worn with pure enjoyment. Absolutely.’ – LHParfums

I’d smelled some Lana & Hadi before via a friend and the brand kindly sent over samples to try the entire collection. Usually I don’t share thoughts after testing on paper, but given the rare nature of these releases, I figured sharing my initial response off a teststrip could be helpful (I wore the 5 that stood out for my taste after the initial impression, but this wasn’t one of those).

On first sniff, this was likely the most in-your-face oudy opening out of the Lana & Hadi collection to my nose. It’s not dark and heavy, but quite pungent. Bordering on fecal, but it’s somewhat bright. It smells outdoorsy; barnyardy in a ‘smoked dry hay’ backdrop sense. Green tones and earthiness starts to shine through, becoming a more familiar vetiver-patchouli scent profile with that skanky smokiness flanking it. After a while it seems to tone down and I can see this one evolving a lot better on skin, but at the end of the day, you’re going to have to be someone that appreciated the Indian style ouds to fully get into Oud Tirabi.
