As with most Montale releases, let me start of by saying that there’s market for this, but I’m not a part of it. You want bang for your buck in terms of performance? You find it at this brand (although there are many stronger ones in their line-up than Oud Sapparot).
What you sacrifice is in terms of how nice it wears and feels… well, everything. To me, this simply wears unpleasantly. It’s a hefty, woody fruity scent in the class of the popular Maison Crivelli Oud Maracuja, but the fruit in Oud Sapparot is riper and sweeter.
Very sweet, in-your-face, overripe pineapple juice, mixed with a hint of coconut and charred, slightly leathery woods. This smells as if someone took Creed Aventus or Mancera Cedrat Boise and compressed a gallon of it into one superdense cloying drop of liquid.
There’s the slightly green tinge in the pineapple and coconut that throws me off a bit; only when I smell my skin up close. This lemon-grass-esque vibe I get from it, doesn’t quite match the rest of the fragrance.
The smoky pineapple fades and the drydown is a more leathery, woody scent. It’s not the harshest Montale, but still rather harsh, loud, artificial smelling and frankly, a chore to wear (and potential annoyance to people around you). Different strokes for different folks I guess.
