Maybe it’s on the safe side for connoisseurs, but the level of oudiness is perfect for my nose. You get the slightest hint of skankiness in the opening minutes, with a very clean and smooth wear after.
Oud Du Bois uses two types of oud oil (Cambodian and Indian), but it also uses cedarwood and sandalwood. It opens with a blast of citrus, but after that it comes off smelling like a cozy Autumn setting, with a light sweetness. I picture an old wooden cabin in a forest, having a blackberry or forest fruit tea in front of you and maybe some sweet pastry. I absolutely love the coziness and comfort that it creates. It doesn’t have the warmth that you might expect from that description though, it’s really clean and almost fresh, which keeps it uplifting.
So I like it, but here’s where the magic happened. I don’t often layer fragrances, but I dó often wear 2, 3, sometimes 4 fragrances during a day when sampling. I accidentally ‘layered’ this with Akro’s Awake (and I think any stronger coffee scent will do) and it was nothing short of amazing. With the added roasted quality to it, a (vague) likeness to Floraiku One Umbrella For Two appeared.
Oud Du Bois is not a Fragrance Du Bois that you hear a lot about and it has been discontinued shortly after its release. Looking back, this is my favorite from their attars.
