‘Ombrella Crash is a little joke about the fun-loving spirit of Saint Barths Island that teases the tourists who struggle to open an umbrella when they are caught in a sudden tropical storm. The island responds with the strength of nature which invites us to experience it as it is and to enjoy the beauty of a downpour. This fra- grance is an invitation to trust and live according to our instinct, to think outside of the box, to act in ways that disrupt our habits. It encourages us to surround ourselves with new opportunities that we discover as we observe the horizon from a completely new perspective.’ – Jacques Zolty
Is Ombrella Crash the best that Jacques Zolty has to offer? Not necessarily; for example the Jacques Zolty EDT is excellent for its fougere style. However, this is one of their most fun and light-hearted fragrances and when offered the choice for a PR collaboration in the high Summer heat, it felt appropriate to highlight Ombrella Crash.
Simply given that it boast notes as rhubarb, kiwi, watermelon and sea notes, it’s quite an impressive feat that I enjoy this fragrance. It is very fruity, very youthful, but opposed to many in this style, I do not find this too much or cloying. It’s kept very watery, which I think really helps and keeps it fresh enough for Summer.
What also helps is that I don’t picture the sea with Ombrella Crash. Instead, I picture a clear, fresh water pool. This fragrance takes me back to Summer days at out the (outdoor) swimming pool as a teenager.
It’s this sort of filtered smelling water (I wouldn’t go as far as calling it chlorined) that remarkably works in this fragrance’s favor in my opinion. It keeps things bright, while fruity, creating a shampoo like sensation, more so than actual fruit juices.
This falls in the same broad category to me as Der Duft Privilege (also containing rhubarb and sea notes), but Ombrella Crash is more easy going and less green; which I much prefer. Overall a fun and easy-going fragrance.
