‘After years of explorations around the world and conversations with emerging perfumers from different cultures, which led to the creation of highly evocative fragrances, we have decided to turn our gaze to our home, Italy. Italy is known worldwide for many reasons: its millennia-old culture, the immense variety of culinary traditions, the warmth of its people, the breathtaking beauty of its landscapes and cities. Instead, we have chosen to go across the real country, through the eyes of the young people with whom Jijide has always collaborated, to discover new, authentic, contemporary inspirations and stories. We’re ready now to share with you our own snapshot of Italy: two new fragrances that embody the perspective of two highly talented debuting noses: Mattia Sorrentino and Edda Salvadori. Together with Edda and Mattia, we will be present at Esxence to introduce our two new Jijide fragrances of our Dialogo collection: Dentro and Oltre.’ – Jijide Milano
To be completely honest, as much as I want to love this brand’s fragrances (I’ve tried all of them I think by now), it had not yet worked out to be a full love for me up to this point and the same is true for Oltre. It’s one of the fragrances that I could see myself wearing, but it doesn’t excite me (especially when compared to it’s companion, Dentro).
The brand seems to have a strong divide between their heavier and their lighter scent profiles, with the brighter ones being less eccentric. Oltre lands somewhat in between, but ultimately on the former, more accessible half (whereas the other half of the duo, Dentro, is part of the heavier, more eccentric group).
Oltre feels crisp, almost aquatic floral. I mostly get the scent of violet, but it comes across as if it’s been bleached. Watery, ozonic, subtle violet. More on the aromatic, dew drop side, instead of the often sweeter violet. It makes for a zen-like, contemplative fragrance that is rather versatile, but it retains a neon-bright tinge that keeps it from being fully comforting and soft.
As it dries down, it grows a bit sweeter, in an ambery, coca-cola way, but still subtle. This ambery spark pulls it in a more modern direction and it’s my favorite element of the wear.
Oltre is a decently strong like, but not a love. Arguably my favorite of the fresher Jijide alongside Shao Guan, but not as interesting as a Cin Fan or Dentro in my opinion.
