‘Night Flower opens with a blast of fresh, aromatic cardamom. Animalic leather and suede wrap around a narcotic Indian tuberose, drying down to a cozy base of birch tar, patchouli, cinnamon and tonka.’ – Eris
‘Night Flower is a leathery, animalic floral fragrance. Spellbinding, sexual and addictive.’ – Antoine Lie
I was intrigued a lot when I smelled Night Flower during a store visit in Paris; it was one of the stand-outs from the trip for me, so I had to get a sample to try on skin. It’s even sweeter than I first thought (literally and figuratively).
It opens slightly dirty, earthy; patchouli and tuberose hints (briefly), some cinnamon. After a while the earthiness and most of the dirtier tones fade to make way for what I pretty much perceive as a gourmand-like scent. There’s a lot of tonka and it smells a bit like a warm custard pudding as it dries down; with a hint of skank left.
This is rightfully compared to your Shalimars and Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur, but I think the labdanum is toned down. It’s vanilla-ish scent reminded me a bit off the Shalimar Vanilla Planifola.
Beautiful release.
