In 2023 Scents of Wood launched an NFT subscription. Subscribers receive 4 NFT fragrances in the following years.
Here’s one you don’t get to see every day. NFT1 is the first of the Scents of Wood NFT subscription limited editions. Made by Pascal Gaurin (who’s made many for them, including the ever popular Plum in Cognac). At the time of writing, NFT2 has also been launched, which isn’t my cup of tea, but this NFT1 already made getting the subscription worthwhile for me.
The notes definitely averted my expectations. Vetiver, geranium, lavender and cardamom are listed; so I was expecting a more strongly masculine leaning, aromatic, fresh or spicy scent. To my nose, that’s not at all the vibe of NFT1.
Instead, the other 2 listed notes, labdanum and ambertonic, are the stars of the show and straight away this has a strong sweetness with a golden and bright hue to it.
Perhaps you can compare the aromatics and sweetness combination a little bit to what you get in Nishane Ani, which also is very sweet, but not quite gourmand and people are divisive about it leaning one way or another gender-wise. However, the sweetness here is much more reminiscent of the labdanum Guerlain Shalimar.
Bright, slightly sharp due to the aromatic spiciness, but at the same time very comforting vanillic amber. In my opinion with a floral tinge that is perfectly unisex and I even get a tiny pinch of babypowder from NFT1. The vetiver seems to an earthiness, but I don’t find it all that green overall.
This is a dry fragrance to me, slightly powdery. As mentioned, reminding me a bit of the old Guerlains in the same way that Maison Violet Sketch does, which is surely the closest relative to NFT1 within my own collection, but the Scents Of Wood feels more modern. A real gem that I’ll probably wear quite a bit, especially at home as a cozy evening scent.
