In my first impressions I noticed how heavy the honey is here in comparison to other honeyed tobacco scents (although later superseded by Guerlain’s suprisingly strongly honeyed Tobacco Honey). The honey in Nectar Cachete is very prominent throughout and the real selling point of this fragrance. The tobacco is there and combined with the dried fruits gives it a familiar, comforting warm scent.
What really stood out for me in my subsequent wearings is the saffron/leather. It’s more prominent in the first hours than I originally picked up on. The honey tobacco scent definitely stands out still, but the saffron adds a bit of a rougher and heavier edge.
The changes don’t stop there, as in my last two wearings (and especially after 2+ hours) I got another new sensation from Nectar Cachete. At that time in the wear the fragrance becomes really dry and slightly burnt/smokey. The more I smelled it, the more it reminded me of pure benzoin and the way it’s used in Amouage Material or the resins in Astrophil & Stella Amberlievable. Up close to the skin it’s slightly lactonic, but in the air it’s dry.
It’s very sweet throughout, with a realistic honey opening, slowly transitioning into more of a fruity vanilla. Nectar Cachete is for gourmand lovers that don’t mind a heavier and slightly leathery edge. It’s not as safe of a gourmand as 2019’s Ambre Platine is, but more gourmand centric than it’s 2021 companions Moroccan Iris and Santal Sugar are to me.
As always with Lorga, performance and presentation are top notch. This is my favorite of the 2021 trio of releases by Lorga and it solidified Sarah Burri, who also created Ambre Platine, as a nose to pay attention to.
