ylang-ylang

Vetiver
A new version of N°5 EDT (1924). I assume (not confirmed) that this is a reformulation from the last available version. The official listed notes and description are different: The previous version listed ylang-ylang, neroli, aldehydes, vanilla, sandalwood & vetiver, calling it a ‘warm & bright version’, whereas the 2026 version is called an ‘abstract floral interpretation’, with rose & jasmine added to the key notes, while neroli & vanilla are being left out.
‘Featuring a woody, textured facet, N°5 Eau de Toilette is an unexpected interpretation of the legendary fragrance (…)The abstract floral interpretation of N°5, featuring woody accents. N°5 Eau de Toilette opens with an abstract floral bouquet, elevated by aldehydes and enhanced by the woody notes of sandalwood and vetiver (…) N°5 Eau de Toilette, a proclamation of authenticity and distinction. A woody abstract floral fragrance that is captivating and textured—an invitation to discover N°5 in a different light. The scent features a streamlined bottle inspired by the original design from 1924. Minimalist and refined, it strips away the superfluous to better reveal this unexpected interpretation. In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel called upon Ernest Beaux to create a rare and powerful “woman’s perfume, with a woman’s scent.” The perfumer presented her with a visionary composition that made unprecedented use of aldehydes, and thus N°5 Parfum was born. In 1924, a new expression with woodier notes emerged: N°5 Eau de Toilette. The fragrance opens with a bouquet of rose, jasmine and ylang-ylang, elevated by aldehydes, while sandalwood and vetiver add depth (…) 1 iconic fragrance, 3 interpretations. A woody, textured facet distinguishes N°5 Eau de Toilette from the sensual, ambery trail of N°5 Eau de Parfum and the vibrant freshness of N°5 L’EAU Eau de Toilette.’ – Chanel
