‘The red camellia is a flower unlike any other and the key ingredient in N°1 DE CHANEL. A flower with revitalising powers, whose extraordinary energy gives it perennial youth. CHANEL Research has harnessed its exceptional properties to create a new generation of beauty products, including skincare, makeup and a fragrance mist. The red camellia is soft and delicate, yet extraordinarily strong and resilient. An exceptional source of vitality, for a youthful glow. Olivier Polge drew inspiration from both of its dimensions for L’Eau Rouge, the revitalising fragrance mist: one that is fresh, sparkling and dynamic, the other soft and delicate. The tone is set from the very first notes of the fragrance; it opens with a fruity (citrus and red berries) flourish of energy that unfurls into a jasmine-rose heart, the iconic hallmark of CHANEL Fragrance. The composition draws to a delicate close with comforting musk and iris notes.’ – Chanel

No.1 L’Eau Rouge is a modern, somewhat youthful ‘fragrance mist’ by Chanel, meant to be either worn as a refresher by itself or layered with their other products.

It features camelia as a main note. I recently before tried (and unfortunately didn’t really like) Ella K Camelia K. So at least the Chanel wins the camelia battle in my limited experience so far.

What this smells like (a lot) to me is cherry blossom. In particular, I often use Rituals Cherry Blossom room sticks and candles and they smell very similar to this Chanel.

Very pleasant, easy going, inoffensive. Also very far traditionally feminine leaning. It leans more acidic, citrussy than sweet. This sets it apart from a lot of other light cherry blossom and floral scents like it, which tend to be made to grow sweeter and/or milkier. Here it’s more airy and invigorating to me, rather than just soothing. I think it would be great in warm weather especially.

A very simple, familiar scent, but as often with Chanel, executed with a lot of class and sophistication. It’s not extremely light, but everything feels subtle and modest. Enjoyed the wear, but not quite memorable or fitting for me; would love this on a woman. Also, the price is quite good compared to many other things. Despite being a mist, performance seemed okay so far for me.
