After trying Headspace Santal, which was a big love for me, I had to dive into more of this brand. Myrrhe sounded the most interesting for me next and it just so happens that it’s the other one that is also done by Julien Rasquinet. So can he go two for two?
Short answer: Yes. But, Myrrhe definitely isn’t as cozy and comforting as Santal is to me.
The namesake myrrh is prominent and it adds a brighter, churchy incense vibe. It’s sweetened a bit, but also a bit (green) minty to my nose (incense like this always is to me), making for an interesting contrast.
Myrrhe reminds me of incense fragrances like (the opening of) Matiere Premiere Encens Suave or Nakuna Musta, but it feels a bit more alive. Where myrrh can often feel melancholic in my experience, Myrrhe feels quite happy and lively. There’s an almost fizzy quality to the texture that at times recalls the feeling of lemonade.
As is often the case with incense, I can’t get 100% comfortable with it (unless drenched in a honey-like sweetness like in Areej Le Dore Mysore Incenza), but this is another very solid release from Headspace.
