Midnight Call is a fragrance with a strong transition in it. Evening out as a middle ground fragrance for me personally. The opening, which I love and, the drydown, which is not really to my taste.
I went in blindly and was surprised to smell a lot of (what I thought to be) iris. Turns out, no iris is listed in the notes, but to my nose, it smelled like fresh, powdery iris. Very clean and neat, kind of similar to the iris used in some Chanel Les Exclusifs or Maison Violet’s line.
However, within minutes, the more fruity tinge from the violet comes into play. Still powdery, still fresh, almost watery florals, but with that hit of violet being prominent.
After a while, the fruitiness becomes more and more forward, as if it ripens during the wear. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that it smells like Xerjoff Erba Pura, as some people have voted for on Fragrantica. Especially given the opening, this is a different, fresher and more subtle type of fruity scent. However, I do start to see where they make that connection more and more as the wear progresses.
For my taste, the opening is phenomenal, but it does get too fruity and warm, eventually even more sweet than fruity. The late drydown almost smells caramelized to me.
I do really appreciate the movement and transitioning during this fragrance’s wear. Unfortunately moving it away from the style I enjoyed more.
