Imaginary Authors had been on my to try list since I started my fragrance journey. Unfortunately, I’ve had some issues with the delivery of a discovery set, which kept the brand out of reach for a while. Memoirs Of A Trespasser is my first dive into the brand and hopefully more will follow this year.
Straight away, this is an extremely dry fragrance. I think this might be the driest depiction of a vanilla fragrance that I’ve encountered and it’s rather nice.
Memoirs Of A Trespasser is often compared to Maison Margiela By The Fireplace, but from my memory that one is more smoky, whereas the Imaginary Authors is straight up dry. Woody, sand-like, and indeed also smoky at times.
What really stands out aside from the vanilla, is myrrh. Before knowing the notes, the myrrh was clearly noticeable to me. Myrrh is probably the most melancholic note in my opinion and here it adds a cold-smoky, church-like core.
Don’t go into Memoirs Of A Trespasser expecting cozy and comforting gourmand. At least, to my nose that’s not the vibe here; it’s as much desert as dessert, albeit a strong vanilla at the same time. Really interesting vibe, although I can’t see myself wearing a scent like this too often.
