M V2Q is the second rendition of M (No. 03). You can read my thoughts on the original version (by Roja Dove). It’s an older and shorter review, so I didn’t have M on hand for a side by side comparison. Here’s what I can tell you about Antoine Lie’s M V2Q though.
The overall feeling is similar to the one that I recalled. A very complex and busy scent, with a spicyand floral leathery core. From the opening, I get hints of leather, liquorice and even a hint of petroleum. It feels slick, like a shiny patent leather. It’s dark, but at the same time, a piercing brightness shines through.
Jasmine is noticeable, but I seem to get less of the florals than some of the other impressions I’ve seen of this fragrance. Instead, it grows rather sweet on my skin.
I keep getting fruity touches; reminiscent of blackcurrant to me. I was taken back to fragrances as Clive Christian’s X for Men or Xerjoff MV Agusta, but I felt that there was more of a mystery fruitiness throughout M V2Q.
While leathery, there is a sweeter woodiness backing it. Most of the sweetness and coziness coming from a prominent cinnamon. The woods start moving into a slightly nutty direction in the drydown. Definitely blending spicy amber and leather here.
According to others; quite different from the original M; I’ll reserve judgement on that until I smell M again. For now, I find M V2Q very well done, perhaps a tad more modernized and mass appealing, as I don’t remember the original getting as sweet. Still a complex and dense fragrance with an opulent air.
