Legacy Of Petra is a 2022 release by Penhaligon’s; a brand that I’m not too well-versed in, but I generally liked what I’ve smelled from them.

With Legacy Of Petra you get a strong minty liquorice opening. Very unique and to my surprise I like it. It lists liquorice, fennel and green tea among other things and I definitely get a more herbal take on liquorice, however there’s also some sweetness and at times it also reminded me of salmiak.

As it dries it becomes sweeter and the resins are taking over, but a greenish liquoric tinge remains and it creates quiet an unusual combination. The drydown also gets rather harsh and dry with the woodiness, despite all the resins.

This is not a scent that I enjoy wearing too much, but I appreciate it and found myself gravitating towards it more than I’d expected given its opening. It has something melancholic and mysterious, in the way Meo Fusciuni’s masterpiece Little Song has.
