      Leather Iris (2021) • THEODOROS KALOTINIS🔺, ScentAdvice

I can’t say that I’ve been as enamored with Kalotinis fragrances as many of my peers seem to be. So far, I’ve found them quite mediocre and unbalanced and the same goes for this Leather Iris. Not bad, not unpleasant, but not great either.

In the first minutes, I smell a huge dose of something akin to coumarin (tonka bean), more than any actual iris. The iris rears its head quite soon though and it’s the best part of this fragrance to me.

The leather has a gasoline-like tinge, but the overall composition is sweet. The first review I saw on Fragrantica mentioned ‘wood varnish’ and that’s what I get and what I mean with gasoline. It smells like alcohol and varnish, mixed with sweet iris. More woody than leathery in my opinion at first, but growing into a plasticy leather after. As it dries that cheaper smelling, sweet coumarin comes through again and makes for a cozy, but underwhelming drydown.

There’s nothing specifically wrong with Leather Iris and it delivers on its name, but it feels too flat; I don’t get any levity, don’t get any textures, don’t get any clear natural smelling notes at any point during the wear and the sweetness doesn’t feel premium. Mind you, if this was in the (at the time of reviewing) €45/50ml EDP line, I would have no complaints and the scent profile is pleasant. That was my experience with the brand thus far; they don’t smell high-end to me, but they weren’t high-end priced, so that was fine. However, Leather Iris retails at €150/50ml and it doesn’t feel like a better product to me.
