‘The House of Bortnikoff is proud to introduce the young talent of Maxim Bortnikov. ‘Le Voyage Oriental’, his debut release is an exotic olfactory journey inspired by the expeditions of world travelers like Marco Polo and Vasco da Gama who undertook perilous voyages to Oriental lands and brought back with them ships loaded with exotic spices, fruits, and precious materials. An intricate blend of citrus, spices, and precious woods, ‘Le Voyage Oriental’ creates a captivating and sensual adventure for the senses, and transports wearers to an age of discovery and adventure. Le Voyage Oriental opens with ripe aromatic citrus notes leading wearers to the Mandarin Orient. At its heart, the exotic spice bazaars and souks of Middle Eastern Lands beckon. Finally the perfume settles on woody earthy notes reminiscent of travels to the Far Eastern lands of Sumatra and Siam. Truly, a journey to transport you to the wonders of far off Eastern lands.’ – Bortnikoff

Le Voyage Oriental is the first creation released by Maxim Bortnikoff (instead of Dmitry). And it’s a pretty interesting release, albeit not an absolute favorite from the house by any means for me.

Straight from the opening there’s a ton of citrus. Quite ripe and quicky losing its acidity.

Perhaps most prominent to the entire fragrance is the big dose of clove. Clove, nutmeg, pepper… a very spicy, cozy, ‘mulled- wine’ sort of blend in this one.

It’s rather sweet, almost candied, but there’s a medicinal, minty tinge to it. The more I wore it, the more the earthiness and green tones shone through.

An intriguing mix that kept me engaged during the wear, although it’s not my favorite style of scent. The clove especially feel too dominant for my liking, as well as that medicinal tinge. Not a bad offering for a debut release at all.
