‘Inspired by a fruity and velvety cocktail that transports one into the euphoric mood of an unforgettable evening. A gourmand concentrate of joie de vivre.’ – New Notes
All aboard! A new hype-train is leaving the station. Cherry✔️ Milky gourmand✔️ Red bottle✔️ Fancy name & packaging✔️. The Kayali cult should be ‘running not walking’ by now, because New Notes’ latest checks all the boxes and does it very well in my opinion.
Let me preface this by saying that cherry isn’t really my jam and neither is this style of (what I would call ‘women’s designer) gourmands. So my expectations were tempered, but I was not disappointed at all.
From the bottle and on paper, I smelled a brighter, slightly sour, fruitier cherry, but on my skin, this is much more of a thicker, slightly spicy/peppery and tobacco-y type of cherry. With a almond-heavy tinge overall. The cherry made kind of a comeback in the drydown.
The opening is solid, before leaning heavier into it’s gourmand, lactonic counterpart. Good news; it doesn’t smell like condensed or fruity milk. It’s more like a milky sandalwood, which I much prefer. It does smell like a more generic type of sweetness, but especially in the later drydown I thought it was better than most fragrances in this style. It leans less traditionally youthful and feminine than it often does when you pair fruity, floral and lactonic.
I named Kayali earlier, because Latte Di Cherry has a similar overall vibe to my nose; picture layering Lovefest Burning Cherry with Pistachio Gelato and Vanilla 28. That being said, Latte Di Cherry gives the latter a run for its money at least (I probably like it better) and I definitely prefer it over the other two, so not too shabby.
As mentioned, this isn’t fully up my alley, but I can get behind this and was pleasantly surprised. It may be my favorite of the New Notes up until its release (later superseded by Akigala Mandarino).
Don’t quote me if it doesn’t, but I think this could be the fragrance that takes New Notes to new levels.
