Jeroboam has quite a fun line-up, but the only one I truly love so far is Unue, followed by Gozo. Kun Amo won’t be joining their ranks as it isn’t working out for me; Including Jovoy’s collection, this is one of my least favorites.
Granted, it does smell like the listed notes for the most part, depending on how you interpret them. Fruity, but sweet. And harsh. I was hoping for much more of a fresher fruity opening myself, but straight away this comes across as an overly sweetened, loud, synthetic mix of ripe fruits (almost apple juice, caramelized apple / pear) and screechy sweet woods. I knew I didn’t enjoy this wear instantly upon spraying it.
I don’t get much pear and even in the best case, pear in fragrances usually smells highly unnatural. It’s a notoriously hard thing to get right in my experience, but in the case of Kun Amo, there is little attempt to capture any brightness or lifelike pear qualities. It becomes a sweet woody cloud within the first 5 minutes.
The way this one smells and feels makes me think of a Middle Eastern clone or at best a Mancera copy of a Kilian (Apple Brandy, Angels’ Share Paradis, Old Fashioned). I’m left with a generic sweetness bordering on cloying. I’m reminded of sugary sweet ‘sandalwoody’ bases, which still have a hint of fruit to imagine, but only the sweet facets. Almost like a fruity-vanilla designer. And to be clear, it doesn’t wear remotely as nice as Angels’ Share Paradis or Old Fashioned to me; it lacks any smoothness and creaminess.
The final hours end up a tad more dry, spicy with the same sugary sweet woods being the main theme. It feels like a dense cloud: Airy, but thick and homogeneous.
Either way, Kun Amo is a clear miss for me and unfortunately, because there are few good pear fragrances and I was hoping for this to be one. I wouldn’t consider this a pear fragrance at all though and as a sweet woody one, I find it disappointing.
