Kalimantan is my definitely my favorite of the 4 Chantecaille that I’ve tried at the time of writing.
It opens a bit daring with dry spices, incense and a hint of skank. Some have likened the scent in the opening to cannabis, but to me it’s more (a greenish) suede.
What stands out however, is a big dose of custardy vanilla. The vanilla reminds me a bit of Guerlain Shalimar. I got hints of slightly latexy or band-aid-esque vanilla, which later turn into more of a burnt wood shavings drydown. Kalimantan is quite similar to Chantecaille Oud Fume, especially with the fiery, warm wood shavings, but it’s sweeter.
Someone mentioned that this smells like Chanel Coromandel and while it didn’t register as such during my testing, I can 100% get behind that. It’s sweeter and easier to wear for me, than the earthier, patchouli-er Coromandel; perhaps close to the Coromandel Parfum.
