      Jasmin Grandiflorum Extrait 30 (2023) • GUERLAIN‎🔺, ScentAdvice

Jasmine can be one of the most beautiful notes on the planet. Here in Jasmin Grandiflorum, it’s perfectly adequate (perhaps not for its price and expectations however), but it’s not the jasmine of my dreams.

Essentially, this feels like the jasmine in the opening hour of Jasmin Bonheur, dressed down even further. Less acidity, which I think makes this Jasmin Grandiflorum a little bit less exciting. On the other hand, it doesn’t have the overly (white) musky base, which is a plus.

That is to say, this is more jasmine focused and it’s a solid quality jasmine scent, but I don’t find it very exciting.

Indols are nowhere to be found; this doesn’t have the sensuality of a skanky indolic jasmine at all. As mentioned, not much by way of acidity either. It’s all very safe, more in a smooth lactonic direction, mixed with some sharper green hints. It reminds me a lot of Perris Jasmin de Pays, minus the daring facet.

I picture pink and green hues, but more pastelle than anything vibrant. For this release, I had hoped for a more outspoken take on jasmine. It feels rather soliflore to me. Strawberry is an interesting listed note, but don’t expect any juicy, fruity qualities. It’s more of a strawberry milk hint that is there when I look for it.

Definitely seems to dip its toes in some tuberose too. Others have remarked on a similarity with Diptyque Do Son and I can see why.

Very enjoyable to sample, but with conflicted feelings. After sampling all of the Extraits, besides Iris Pallida at the time of writing, Jasmin Grandiflorum is my second favorite after Rose Centifolia. However, I feel it adds even less to what’s already out there than the other 3 do. I may prefer certain tonka or vanilla scents over what Guerlain brought to the table in this collection, but they did offer something, for better or worse. In the case of Jasmine Grandiflorum, I feel that it gets lost in a field of jasmines at a fraction of the price as neither the quality or the composition stands out to me.
