I haven’t smelled much from Jul Et Mad at this point, but what I smelled, I mostly enjoyed. The Histoire D’Amour scent profile seemed really interesting to me, so I went in with reasonably high expectations. While I enjoy the scent as is, it’s not lived up to those expectations fully.

Opening with tart fruits and a lot of sweetness. It lists a chantilly cream as a note alongside the fruits, but it’s not a creamy or cozy consistency to my nose; more like candied fruits.

This fragrance starts dry and goes drier on my skin. Not quite what I expected, although saffron is listed as a note. To me this has the cashmeran, powdery woody-suede aesthetic.

The fruits are not all that juicy and they are easily trumped by the sweetness and woodier base. It grows powdery and musky. In general, it feels very delicate and light, like a second skin (which I guess fits the theme of lovers).

I feel like there is something interesting here, but it’s hard to detect. I wore it twice, to try to get a better idea of the scent, but it feels too fleeting and close to the skin to really show it’s qualities to the fullest. The brand talks of a raspberry-strawberry cream accord, but I’d be hard-pressed to find anything like it after minutes and the main theme seems to be centered around a mango-oud accord, but this too feels so kept in check that it’s hard to get intrigued by it. Pleasant enough to enjoy, but not bold enough to wow me.
