‘God of Fire is inspired from the legend of Xiuhtecuhtli, God of fire, day and light in the Aztec mythology. Creator of all life, he is the mother and father of all Gods. He is the personification of light in the darkness, warmth in coldness and life in death. As a patron of kings and warriors, he is shown carrying a turquoise serpent around him and wearing a crown and ornaments made of a Turquoise blue stones.’- Stephane Humbert Lucas
Mango fragrances have been hard to love for me, as all tend to go too sweet to be refreshing or even suitable in warm weather. The sole exception in my collection being Strangers Salted Green Mango.
Stephane Humbert Lucas has one of the better options in my opinion, with Soleil de Jeddah Mango Kiss; unique in it’s powdery nature, but also sweet. God Of Fire is his other popular mango offering, but I can’t say that I’m a fan of this one.
That all depends on what you’re looking for though, as this is initially quite a strong, actual mango scent and more true to a ripe, juicy mango than Mango Kiss is for example. However, it’s also cloyingly sweet on me.
Moreover, the fruitiness has a distinct Xerjoff Erba Pura tinge to it; not fully, as the mango is the prominent feature here, but I can’t help to smell Erba Pura as well and I’ve always had issues enjoying that DNA. It has a bit of the watery nature that you find in Aventus, texture wise it’s a nice perfume, but it lacks any subtlety for me.
You’re bombarded with very sweet, thick fruitiness. You still get this almost caramelized sweetness behind the fruitiness and a (Middle-Eastern inspired?) sweet spiciness. As the wear progresses, more and more of that sweet spiciness comes through. It made me think of a fruitier and unbalanced version of YSL Tuxedo at some point. I’d prefer this over Erba Pura or Tiziana Terenzi Kirke, but I don’t love it and I definitely don’t get the hype surrounding it.
