‘Cola.Popcorn.Sweet.Vanilla.Sparkling.
Addictive.Caramel.Hot.Gourmet.
Elia and Camille have imagined a Neo Vanilla, reworked with ultra-addictive and gourmet notes. A sparkling coke accord, a peanut butter accord, and above all, natural popcorn! Caramel, woods and sweet notes, delicacy at the end of the bottle. Forget the diet, Autumn is going to be fa(s)t.’ – Versatile Paris
After absolutely loving Croissant Cafe, the 2023 God Bless Cola is my second dive into a buzz-worthy concept from this brand. As with everything from Versatile, it comes in a 15ml perfume oil with roll-on, which makes them quite affordable and practical.
I was excited about God Bless Cola, because I’ve been waiting for a great cola scent in my collection for years, however, I ended up liking it for different reasons. To me, God Bless Cola leans more into the gourmand, edible side of the concept than the namesake cola.
The opening is definitely cola-tinged. It’s bright, fizzy, with hints of citrus. I think the perfume oil concentration doesn’t lend itself as much for sparkling texture, as for a softer fizzy cola foam. It’s never full-on cola however, with the sweet popcorn being there from the start.
I don’t know how much I love the mix initially. Within minutes the sweetness overtakes the cola more and I like it better. This doesn’t go in the typical, toasted (often burnt) smelling popcorn that I’ve come across in other fragrances. I was a bit weary of this, but in God Bless Cola, butter is a key feature.
I get a balsamic, fatty, buttery, smooth sweetness. Pastry-like with hints of nuttiness, as in Croissant Cafe. Mixed with a feint hint of the brighter citrussy fizziness from the opening, it makes an uncompromisingly sweet gourmand less cloying.
You can definitely picture popcorn here. As it dries down, the popcorn also seems to dry and more of the roasted quality comes through. It never feels as saturated as for example The House Of Oud What About Pop.
An interesting and nice gourmand that I prefer over other popcorn scents so far. It doesn’t fill the cola-void for me, so it may be about managing expectations when you go into God Bless Cola. Croissant Cafe remains my favorite, but God Bless Cola is definitely more unique.
