AREEJ LE DORE
GENDA ATTAR
2022
PERFUMER
Russian Adam
Marigold
Mysore Sandalwood
Genda is centered around a flower that I’m not really familiar with (besides how it looks); marigold.
As with the other attars in this line, the sandalwood is very prominent; perhaps even more so in Genda than in Gulab and Motia, which I tried prior to this. The marigold makes this this the sweetest of those attars, but also one where I find the floral element to be the most overshadowed by woodiness.
Straight away it has a sweetness, but also some brighter, greener tinge. For a moment it reminded me a little bit of the heart of Areej’ previous release, Aquilaria Blossom.
The sweetness is almost chocolate-like, but subtle and there’s a slightly bitter, zesty floral tinge. This only lasts minutes to my nose. As I mentioned, the sandalwood really overtakes this composition, even more so than with the others (which I already found strongly leaning into the sandalwood).
A slight sweetness prevails throughout, a tad nutty, like hazelnut, semi-sweet woodiness, mixed with the amazing texture of the sandalwood.
