As was to be expected given its name, this is a full-blown, clean musky scent. Heavy on the laundry detergent/powder side, with some soapy aldehydic touches. And it’s another excellent take on musk by Narciso.
That said, this is not… a masterpiece. Not groundbreaking. If you’re not into a clean musk, it’s probably not at all interesting. Pure Musc Blanc smells like it could’ve been made with 2 ingredients, yet its no less pleasant because of it. Good musks, even on their own, are very wearable, especially my favorite, the smooth Tonalid, although this one from memory may be closer to an Exaltolide or Galaxolide.
A massive positive for me, is that this fragrance doesn’t have any of the ‘Sephora isle’ vibe, which probably shouldn’t surprise me. This is something that Narciso over the years have steadily achieved; it’s without a doubt one of the better smelling and wearing designer brands on the market, that hasn’t been caught in the vicious circle of smelling like one of the handful of generic cloud archetypes that 90% of contemporary releases seem to fit within.
Compared to some of my favorite musks however, like Puredistance Divanche, Frederic Malle Acne Studio, Lorenzo Villoresi Musk, it’s feels less complete. Definitely less built out with other notes and less creamy. Pure Musc Blanc borders on coming across more like a toiletry product, but executed well. More of an Escentric Molecules-Not A Perfume experience, rather than a full-bodied, complex ride.
Of course, like almost any fragrance, it warms up, gets a bit smoother and it does get sweeter over time, but don’t expect a big dose of vanilla here. It never gets truly creamy or vanillic, it’s a musk through and through, with a soapy or clean side from start to finish.
Pure Musc Blanc is not a perfume that you pick for its wow factor, it’s dynamic wear or anything like that; it’s a really good, utalitarian clean “skin scent”; probably one of the best currently on the market.
