In a nutshell, this feels like a perfect blend between Le Labo’s Santal 33 and Cartier Declaration, with more of a minty touch. You get a great sandalwood, with a refreshing surrounding.
So, it’s minty and I don’t get the ‘cucumber/pickle’ vibe from this. It’s spicy as well, but it’s mainly the cumin that jumps out. Cumin is always a bit challenging, but as in Declaration EDT, it’s handled really well here. Flash Back In New York feels like a more masculine leaning and less industrial, less sterile take on what Santal 33 did and it surprises me it’s not talked about more often.
Don’t confuse this with the regular Flash Back release by the way, which is a vetiver-heavy fragrance that reminds me of Terre D’Hermes; that is my favorite between the two Flash Back releases, but both are good.
