If you’ve read or seen my other Floraiku reviews, you know that I love One Umbrella For Two and liked Between Two Trees, but that I was not impressed by most of the others. In general the house seems to be plagued with mediocre to simply weak performance and underdelivering for their pricep oint. First Dream Of The Year is a very bright, light floral scent, which I expected to fade very quickly, based on my experiences with Floraiku so far…but to my surprise this performs well above average, excellent even for such a light scent profile.
In the opening you get a pretty sharp, but still pleasant grapefruit note. It’s very bright, almost light green, so more of an unripe grapefruit to my nose. And in the drydown it takes it even further in that direction; it doesn’t get darker or sweeter, it leans more towards lemon. Combine that with a bright, white or yellow floral. The listed notes are orange blossom and iris. It’s not a lipstick, powdery iris to me. I get a slight soapiness and the floral scent in general is feminine and light, in the direction of lily-of-the-valley.
So overall, I like this release, but I wouldn’t reach for it. Despite the enhanced performance, which is quite impressive for this type of scent, I still think the price point is hard to justify.
