Fabolous Yuzu is a 2022 release by Mancera and one that I like quite a bit. As expected, Fabolous Yuzu opens very citrussy. It’s not as tart as I expected, more so a sweeter, juicier mandarin than any real zesty and sharp elements.
It has a really fruity, ripe quality to it, like it’s a bit too thick to be a fresh citrus opening, but it’s very nice for what it is. Opposed to the first reviews I’ve seen of Fabolous Yuzu, I don’t really get cinnamon in here much. I do get vanilla, which makes the citrus more candy-like, but it doesn’t seem to overtake the brightness completely for a long enough time.
In the mid the scent becomes slightly more floral. I don’t pick up a specific jasmine or mimosa that are listed as notes, but more so a sharpness and light-green tinge. That being said, mandarin-citrus is mostly what I get still. I get a similar sweet citrus in here as in the Louis Vuitton’s Afternoon Swim DNA. In the drydown Fabolous Yuzu warms up some more and gets sweeter, but never goes into only vanilla.
To my surprise, I like this one a lot more than I expected to. It’s simple, but not often do you get a warmer, sweeter citrus where the citrus actually lasts (albeit in a more subtle way than Mancera often does); besides, I think the Mancera price point makes a lot more sense for a scent like this (than with popular citrusses like Afternoon Swim or Tygar). I don’t think Fabolous Yuzu will be the next Cedrat Boise, but it is a really stellar citrus fragrance and likely my favorite Mancera to release in 2022 alongside French Riviera.
