‘There is a place where body, mind and soul find harmony again. On tropical shores, in the shade of coconut palms caressed by sea breezes. Here, lying down with eyes half-closed, you may see Creole women, with pale and amber skin, pass by. One of them slows down, her eyes full of strange spells, thoughts wander lightly and impertinently. Lost in a delicious dream of tactile and creamy treasures. A debut of fresh Bergamot and creamy Coconut introduces the enveloping exotic atmospheres of a daydream, rocked by sea accords towards an intense erotic heart of Ylang Ylang and Jasmine. Enhanced by Cypriol, sublimated by the delicious.’ – Jacques Zolty
Ete du Cocotier is my first dive into Jacques Zolty. Coconut is hard to get right, but somehow also a note that I’m always drawn to. Here, it’s done in a middle of the road way for me as far as my preference goes.
Meaning that it’s not lost in the composition. Not just a sun tan lotion fragrance like many fragrance with similar notes are. I’m happy that the coconut stands out. On the other hand, it’s bordering on cloyingly sweet for me at times.
The ‘sea vibes’ are understated here. Think more of a cocktail and snack on the beach, but not so much the sea water. This is more gourmand and ambery/vanilla for example than Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Beau. Yet, not as woody and dry-cookie coconut as Fragrance du Bois Santal Complet.
The sweetness here is a lactonic, mostly vanillic facet and as mentioned, I find it a bit too much (I wore it on a pretty warm day). It’s kept at bay by some freshness, but especially as the wear goes on, not much push back is given to the gourmand side.
A fun fragrance overall and a solid first impression for the house.
