Straight from the first spray I was enamored by it and it brought back similar feelings to smelling Ganymede for the first time. Their scents are completely different, but they feel like they belong to the same family, even more so than B683 and B683 Extrait do in my opinion.
In the opening you get rhubarb and a spiciness. It’s fiery and it tingles my nose in a way burnt spices in cooking do. It’s woody and green (vetiver). It’s almost smoky and I think it alludes to the suede in Ganymede. To me this wears partially like a leather fragrance. However, it quickly becomes almost creamy.
The rhubarb turns into a fig-like scent and consistency for me and I could even imagine a tuberose here. The fragrance that Encelade reminds me off the most might be a fruitier take on BDK Gris Charnel Extrait. Then again, it’s already clear that everyone perceives this wildly different, as is the case with Ganymede.
As mentioned there is rhubarb and that’s a note that I never loved before, until now. It’s fruity, but definitely very ‘perfume’ like, specifically, it has a strong traditional ‘women’s perfume’ tinge to me and I’d argue this is the most unisex Marc-Antoine Barrois, as the others lean more masculine to my nose (that is, until the launch of Tilia, which was marketed more towards women).
Encelade is one of the strongest fragrances that I’ve ever come across. If you don’t go light on the sprays, it may spoil the fun and get overwhelming quickly. It’s a rare fragrance where for me 2 sprays is the maximum to enjoy it.
