Disclaimer: I wore this while having a cold and fever, so probably not the best conditions to evaluate a scent.
What I got mostly here is spices. Spices and more spices. Peppery, nutmeg-esque and a big dose of cardamom. Not ‘green’ cardamom, but peppery. Sharp and masculine leaning.
I do get some florals, but initially much less than in BDK Tabac Rose (which is the most compared fragrance to Prolixe). I feel like this is perhaps as close to Nuit de Sable, minus the BDK’s lactonic side in the opening.
As it dries, more of an ambery rose comes through, but it remains spicy. I can see dry tobacco as well, but it feels more like straight up spices to me for most of the time. It’s like a dried up rose ornament, more than a blooming flower.
I get a more forest-like woodiness as it dries; like cypress; reinforcing the masculine leaning, after-shave vibe that I get from Prolixe. The comparison to Tabac Rose comes more by way of the sweetness on my skin on first impression. Aside from that sweetness, it feels mature; I could also see this fitting in the Serge Lutens line really well.
Very solid fragrance and it grew on my during my first time wearing it. It’s not my favorite style to wear, but I’ll probably give it another spray before the end of the year to see how my thoughts hold up.
