‘As you lie on the marble surface, your senses are awakened to the essence of fresh rose petals carefully scattered across the floor. The magical scent of the rose reaches your SELF from its SELF. EFIL; It turns into the reflection of SELF purification in you.’ – Regalien
To me, Efil was probably the second best release of the Efil, Hammam, Dem trilogy. Dem being easily my favorite, as a warmer, spicier, richer rose with a soapy quality. Hammam being the most safe, herbal soapy scent. I think Efil also fits in between the two style-wise.
This is both floral and soapy, but it’s a much more ozonic, ‘molecular skin scent’ type of rose. You get a clear, lovely, but synthetic smelling apple note in the start that’s also thin and airy.
The soapiness here mirrors that of Hammam for me, but it too, is thinner. At times I do get a pretty strong sense of some type of pepperiness (like a white pepper).
What I didn’t get much of when I initially smelled it, but do more now on a proper wear test, is the sweetness. It’s very subtle, but there is a sweet, milky hint hidden in it, that works nicely in contrast with that airy fruity floral side.
Efil is one of those uplifting, always wearable, yet not too generic scents that I think I would like more and more on subsequent wears. The skin-scent-like texture may not feel as luxurious or expensive as in some other fragrances, but it works really well with the cleanliness and soapiness of the actual scent. I don’t think it will ever impress me the way Dem does, but it is up there as one of my favorite offerings from Regalien.
