Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme was first released in 1994 Dolce & Gabbana pour Homme EDT (1994). It was reformulated in 2012 Dolce & Gabbana pour Homme EDT (2012). Apparently the Pour Homme DNA has remained largely the same in the new version (as opposed to the Pour Femme). Pour Homme is the second fragrance released by Dolce & Gabbana (after DOLCE & GABBANA EDT (1992))
This review is for the vintage 1994 (Euroitalia version) Dolce & Gabbana Pour Home. A fragrance that I never really gave a second look, but came as an extra in a swap last month. I believe my particular bottle is either from 1997 or 2007. And it was a nice surprise.
The review below was prior to smelling a modern bottle of D&G Pour Homme, but I’ve since sampled the new version and you can read my thoughts and somewhat of a comparison in that review.
This is one of the essential barbershop-esque masculine leaning colognes. Zingy, sharp citrus; dare I say, highly unnatural smelling, yet pleasant lemon. Very high acidity in the opening hours, leaning more towards green than orange.
Add a healthy dose of lavender, which is the star of the show. The aromatics here feel very crisp, airy and the smell of the lavender in particular is great.
There are some spices and warmer notes listed, but overall it’s very fresh and quite soapy. It smells like an (indoor) pool to me at times.
After a while, there is a warmer, smoother side to it, without altering the scent too much. It gets a bit sweeter and powdery on me, but remains refreshing. I think that’s where the magic in this lies. For a sharp opening citrus and fresh aromatic scent profile, it’s surprisingly smooth. It’s also aged perfectly far as I can tell and hasn’t lost the brightness from the top notes.
As far as tobacco, it’s very fresh. Even brighter to me than for example Versace the Dreamer (which goes in a similar direction, but much harsher to me).
As someone who doesn’t really love barbershop style fragrances (to wear myself), I’m actually very happy to have this in the collection as a no-brainer refresher for the warmer days.
